I was just wondering why you were concentrating south of Bedford Park Blvd. - have you looked further north? I would prefer to stay within 199th to Mosholu for buying.

As it is now, the area between Fordham and BPB is a similiar quality of life/sometimes better perhaps, than East Harlem. However, East Harlem is improving more quickly.

I'm originally from East Harlem and have lived here for most of my life before I moved from Queens, so I'm already used to a little danger. I'm currently in my mid 20's. Is it a safe area for kids or in general? Night life? And rush hours when people go and come home from work?
EHG, What are you looking to spend? Honestly, not the greatest of areas.

With that type of budget why not look in Throggs Neck / Van Nest / Kingsbridge heights. KH, I would look around West of broadway between 231th St to 240th St. Between Broadway- Tibbet Ave. Solid working class area that might meet your 400k multi family needs. I would stay away from your original area. South of Bedford hasnt been nice in over 30 years. http://www.norwoodnews.org/id=9731&s...-the-precinct/

Kingsbridge looks like a decent area. Nice residential streets. Busy commercial streets (Broadway and 231st). If I were moving to the Bronx this would be the first place I'd look.

From co-workers who live in some of those areas the best would be Richmond Hill and Ozone Park. Woodhaven and South Ozone while not bad at all have some sketchy spots. I am not sure exactly where.
