Of course there are. However most of the Mexicans living in New York are from Puebla. So the restaurants around here specialize in that type of food. Personally I have a preference for Northern Mexican or Tex-Mex style food. It is hard to find good versions of either of these styles around here.

As a side note, New York is probably one of the few places where Mexican food is combined with Japanese food. In a lot of neighborhoods Chinese people operate these Sushi-Taco joints that sell both sushi and tacos. Its really a weird combination, and the food is not very authentic, but its cheap and generally tastes good.

Coming from Los Angeles, I wouldn't say 'si'. You guys don't have the water necessary for good shells.

Rosa Mexicano - two or three locations. REAL Mexican food - NOT Tex-Mex!

The Mexican food has gotten better in the last 15 years, but I have yet to go to any Mexican restaurant in NYC that can be called truly great.

As much as I detest LA, I do miss the best mole that I've had outside of Oaxaca.
