It was stupid to gentrify Red Hook in the first place. I always though. It is too complicated to get to Manhattan.

I wonder how far this is going to spread. I doubt that RH is going to be a unique case in NYC.

No I think Red Hook is unique. Hipsters & Yuppies move to Brooklyn looking for good looking old buildings and a short commute to Manhattan. Red Hook has neither, so it doesn't seem to be succeeding.
I seriously doubt the Hipsters/Yuppies will be able to expand much further though as the credit markets are tightening and the economy is becoming destabilized. I don't think they will loose any of their neighborhoods though. If anything more yuppies might start arriving when real estate prices have gone down and they think its time to go bargain hunting.

Yes, that was what I meant. And since areas like Bushwick, Crown Hts and Bed Stuy etc. are at the tail end of the gentrification. I am thinking that it will start to hold off in those areas as far as purchases. Rentals are always another story.

Granted my info is a bit date, but as I recall, the Hook had some rather violent housing projects besides the aforementioned lack of a quick way to Manhattan.
But it has great views and a potential nice waterfront. So you would have to close down the PJs and inplement a regular express shuttle to the subway.
