I'm thinking of whether to even consider this job opportunity. Its in Freehold, nj, which will be roughly 2 hours commute door to door. The. train in nyc are $112 a month, but not sure how much njt prices are as they dont have the flat fee on their site. Actually they have 3 passes but anyways....
Its not a glamorous job. But even so, Its a job. I just dnt like the 2 hour commute along with it but I've done it before. (not here)
But what does concern me is spending my paycheck in commute. Would you do it?

2 hour commute, as in 4 hours each day commuting? I would not do it. Though I know some people that do; however, they do NJ to NYC, not the other way around. It would be too emotionally draining for me personally. I think my limit would be an hour.

Right, the other way makes more sense. If I didnt hav3 issues moving to Jersey, it wouldnt be a big deal. But yea emotionally draining....and I'm much older since the times I used to have tha 5hellish commute. And if I did want a new job.there'd be no time for any job interviews

Oh, that's a long commute. Unless it was a really, really good paying job, maybe I'd consider it but that commute takes a toll on you, physically and mentally. Keep in mind that 2 hours is probably without delays. You don't want to be stuck without other options in the winter if NJT has issues.

If I were single, a two-hour commute would not bother me. I'd sleep, read, and with a regular 9-to-5 schedule be home by 7:30 or so and up at 6:30 the next morning. The sleeping on the train part would make it doable, even if I went out on a workday evening.

But with kids, a family, a significant other? No way. Unless they were starving. And even then I'd think about it!

As it happens, I've been trying to get to Freehold, and I was just told that the bus would take slightly over ONE hour, if that helps.

ya an hour and a half I think. I live in upper Manhattan so add that commute to Penn Station as well.

bbbbrrrr......winter waiting on the bus? I freaking forgot about that! Ya thats perspective right there. I remember in the midwest, a snowstorm came and I was waiting for my bus....last bus to catch after work. And the bus driver didnt wanna go down my street cuz he wanted to get home faster. Luckily a cõworker saw me and had a gut feeling to turn around as she had seen my bus go onto the highway without me. Sure enough, I was standing there like Frosty the Snowman's girlfriend:-) So she gave me a lift home.

Thanks for reminding me of that. I'll let 5he ones in Freehold take that job! Less people to compete with in jobs in nyc or atleast closer to nyc:-)

Theres busses from Penn Station to Freehold. Closest train is Matawan station. I looked it up this morning trying to avoid 2 hr commute:-) It proved fruitless
