ICK NYC is so dirty and disgusting. Reading this thread is making me itch. I can't imagine paying an huge some of money in rent and still having to deal with roaches.

For what it's worth, I've lived in the my apartment in Manhattan for three years now and have literally never once seen a roach, be it in my unit or any of the common areas, including the trash.

When my ex lived with me, she was pretty bad about leaving food and stuff out overnight. I kept telling her it was going to attract roaches, but I've still never seen one. The only kind of pest I get is a couple of flies in the summer when I have the window open.

I think the roach problem is better today than in years long past. The roach baits are better than the poison gas method of fumigation.
And people are onto the still effective and cheap boric acid.

But still, if you have a pig of neighbor who embraces his roach infestation there is nothing you can do but move.

The alternative is to live in a suburb and commute into NYC for work.
