Yes they do. I wouldnt say NYC is more harder about it though. The mentali5y of people is that you must be attractive because they are forced to look at you. They may wish you well as they reject you, but in their minds they want you dead. People are inhumane, uneducated, and not open minded unless it involves sex. Just how things are.
Its best to try to avoid people like that but they've become managers and recruiters and HR reps. Dont know a way around this.

in my field the nerds rule so it matters the least. someday i will put together an album of all the big shots that run the field and you will see what i mean by that....LOL.

other than that, personal charisma matters a lot more than look in most areas. if you can throw witty jokes around you will be loved by most of your colleagues.

Im sure looks matter for employment. One thing I know is height and a nice smile with pearly whites count.

We have nerds in my field too. But the ones whom you talk to are nightlife promoters by night, pretty boys, and graduated with a sociology degree, not a degree in his field that he recruits for.
I like talking to nerds more! They have good minds!
