Knock on wood, I have not been the victim of any degree of crime in the nine years I have lived here, including a stint in the infamous Washington Heights. I also feel generally safer walking around almost anywhere after dark than I did living in Waco TX or Bakersfield, CA. I also don't encounter any more rudeness here than anyplace else. I've actually found London to be much worse in terms of people being just impersonal and rude, and Paris much more risky in terms of having to watch for pickpockets. There are many recent immigrants here who I think sometimes come across as rude due to cultural differences regarding lining up and taking turns, maybe insecurity with English so they push instead of saying "Excuse me," different ideas about personal space, etc. But, that's hardly crime. I don't move to another city because I don't want to live (or even visit) anywhere that counts someplace like the Olive Garden as one of it's nicer Italian restaurants. I also like getting hungry at 11 pm, grabbing a menu, deciding what I want, and calling someone up to have them bring it to me. Also, the performing arts and museums are fabulous.

I feel the same way, I would much rather live in a large city filled with amentities and culture than a dull, mid-size town where culture is Olive Garden and a local Mom and Pop Band.

Yes, I've been a victim of personal attacks, bullying, and general ridicule--all right here on this here forum!

otherwise one purse snatching and a coupla robberies in my office by the cleaning crew. Just need to learn to lock your purse or wallet in a desk drawer and never put your purse on the back of your chair in a restaurant or bar.

Future Cop, I’ve lived in the Bronx since you were like 13 and Upper Manhattan before that starting when you were about 8, and haven’t been a witness to cime there (once witnessed a guy trying to break into a car in Hells Kitchen/Clinton, but that was a long time ago – I went to the payphone and called the cops.) I also don't understand how a 17 year old living in Scarsdale has seen so much.

As far as being a victim of crime, once my apartment was broken into in Hells Kitchen (again a long time ago) and my car was broken into in Inwood.

Oh yeah, and once I was pickpocketed at the Bed Bath and Beyond in Elmsford (Westchester) during the holidays, so watch your wallets everyone especially at this time of year whereever you are shopping.

Yes you can tell that FutureCop is making stuff up. Apparently he might be watching so many bad movies.

Sorry but I am kinda confused by that statement. If it is highly encouraged that it be reported, why is rape in Rapid City so common?

I think Danny is implying that in New York, rape is so commonplace that people don't bother reporting it (which is ridiculous IMO), so the statistics are lower than they should be, but in Rapid City, every single one gets reported.

Do you even know what a Law Enforcement Explorer is? Until you can figure that out, you shouldn't be calling me a liar.

*sigh* I give up.
