I tend to think people who are natives of these areas have no idea where they live...most often they say "the Bronx" or some address. Neighborhood identities have been erased in the past 40 years....so natives oftentimes are the most wrong.

IMO this is squarely Claremont...Morrisania is to the South East (more central, above Melrose).

That area in general I feel has a lot of neighborhoods where the boundaries are undefined (Foxhurst, Woodstock, Melrose, Morrisania, Claremont). But you're a native too...what makes you right and other natives wrong? I'm just saying...

the name of the postal zone (Morrisania is 10456; W Farms is 10460, etc) can sometimes give you an idea of your area tho there is often overlap. you can live on Gates Pl off W Gun Hill Rd (10467 Willismsbridge PO) but that area isn't Williamsbridge. the E Side of the Gr Concourse all the way to Mosh Pkwy is 10458-Fordham PO but the Concourse all the way up there isn't Fordham

I've always felt claremont to be a sub neighborhood of Morrisania. Kind of how you got Woodstock and north new york in Melrose and Mott haven. Same with mt eden is a sub neighborhood of Tremont.

the bldg my folks lived in when they first got married in 1955 was on Monroe Ave and 173 which was 10457 (Tremont PO). the bldg my maternal grandparents moved into was Findlay and 170th-10456-Morrisania PO. yet i think the former was considered Claremont and latter the same...?? Both were considered back in the day to be the "west Bronx" because they were near the Concourse

my office bldg sits literally on the line between Wakefield (10466) and Woodlawn PO (10470). when our side was expanded a decade ago we moved from 10470 to 10466 just by using a newly built staircase. a lot of Wakefield north of Nereid Avenue and west of a certain point carries the Woodlawn PO code but yet the area has nothing to do with Woodlawn at all except that it's close by

so if someone living on say Carpenter Ave and 240th street says they live in Woodlawn because their zip is 10470, they're wrong...theyre in Wakefield

Where does city data get their neighborhoods from? It's like they pull out from thin air. The area in question falls under the Bathgate neighnorhood, while Claremont is further south. The buildings official site has it as crotona park west/bathgate.

Its not morrisania. I would just call it Claremont section of Bronx. Bathgate is further up by the North East and Morris Heights and Mt Eden is to the west. Morrisania is to the east.

Agreed with bathgate. Disagree with morrisania. The other side of crotona park (170's bryant, hoe, longfellow, Charlotte street, Jennings etc) is crotona park east. Morrisania is further south but I'll bet most residents who live in Claremont say they live in morrisania.

I mean the official name if the 167 to 171 projects are claremont village but I'd still say they belong to morrisania.

Morrisania straddles or encompasses along that area pretty good Id say. Just a couple of blocks away from Claremont Park is is Butler Projects. Also what street or avenue divides claremont from morrisanis. Is it Webster Avenue or Morris Avenue?
