There's a plethora of threads about "the East." Do a search.

I used to live in the ville.. All i gotta say is stay in your car and if u do happen to get out dont look lost, act like u know were u at.
On a side note if u wana know the worst spots go anywhere east of rockaway and north of livonia. Tilden, Brownsville houses, van dyke ps, seth low, howard, lh, are acouple of projects in the ville. That whole **** is like 10 different projects. All of them VERY dangerous, especially if u not from there. The east has a kinda different feel. A lil more spread, and has vacant lots, while the ville is filled with projects.

It's nice, similar to the Upper West Side, but a lot less smoked fish and a lot more black people.

Let me put it this way, places like Williamsburg and Park Slope is the Shire, and places like East New York would be Mordor.

lol Brownsville/ENY aren't nice places, they can be very intimidating. Yeah these parts of Brooklyn are definitely raw (look at the NY crime scanners on twitter, there's not a week without a shooting/stabbing happening in Bville/ENY) and you definitely don't wanna be caught on Mother Gaston or Blake & Georgia late at night. However, there is a heavy (to say the least) police presence in the area. Regular people live there too ! Crime stats means something but they remain stats though, so if you want to take a look around in the afternoon, go for it, most likely nothing bad will happen.
