And if we dare speak out, we are the problem, because we have "attitudes" and are not worthy of respect.
Trust me, there's a reason why a white woman in a business suit can walk through any neighborhood without being accosted by hoodlums. They understand very well that their behinds will be arrested if they step out of line and harass one. But unfortunately for us, the street thugs know that every day is open season on black women and girls. The street sexual harassers are the worst type of predators; but they will get their just desserts, karma is real.
This is absolutely true, which is why I mentioned my experiences as a white woman. I remember talking to a friend of mine who is black, about street harassment and saying I rarely experience it from black men. She gave me a look and said now why do you think that might be? Hello, there's an historic racial dynamic at work there! As I said, I am white and really LOOK white--small, blonde, thin, etc. I have no doubt whatsoever that I get a pass (from some guys) because I look like that frail white woman that might get you in trouble. It's great I avoid some harassment (white privilege) but not if it means these guys just turn on other women. Look dudes--you need to leave ALL of us alone. Don't harass me and step the **** back from my sisters.
WRONG. That is how violent physical altercations happen. I witnessed one while eating lunch in a restaurant and was a witness to such an event. The girl got upset over it, reeled the guy in by verbally standing up/fighting back and was met with several hits from a baseball bat. There were no threats or suggestions, just pure explosive violence. She was bleeding all over the sidewalk by the time the NYPD got there. I still wonder about what happened to her. I do have days where I honestly feel like I'm gonna pop off at some of these men. What will I tell the cops when I'm done with them? Just because I'm a petite woman doesn't mean you can with me like that. I may leave City-Data at some point over an arrest. Gonna help me with bail Sobro? Lol
What you witness is a rare and extreme event. I don't want to discount your experience but in reality these things don't happen very often or else women would all be carrying stun guns or mace with them.
I don't believe NY cops would do anything because it's too difficult to prove law was broken. You can't have cops arrest someone unless someone broke a law and there are witnesses or evidence to prove your claims. If a guy didn't grab you and all he did was tell you something nasty. The cops can't do anything.

I agree.

I'm a petite and small woman as well, and because of that there's no way I can physically fight back against men 2, 3 times my size. Sometimes I want to warn these men (or maybe I should call them "males", because people like to call us "females" like we're in the wild) to leave smaller women alone. Because some of us are physically weak, we might be carrying certain...well..."tools" to level out the playing field or even put a potential violent situation in our favor. So they shouldn't go getting themselves hurt.
And I wouldn't discount your story as some rare occurrence. Read any street harassment blog or Hollaback and you'll see that around the world, lots of women have verbally defended themselves only to be me with physical attacks.

sounds like a good case for some undercover action. Present your situation to the local precinct captain, and volunteer to have you monitored during a few runs. They'll snag a bunch of pervs and you'll get some payback

Good idea for getting some of the creepozoids off the streets.
Which is why I think it's a terrible idea for women to live in Manhattan. At any given time you maybe followed by convicted rapists and you have no clue they are following you back to your apt. The city is too accessible unless you have a 24/7 door man.
Street harassers are the least of your worries imo, most of them are harmless and doing it for the sport.
I always find it odd that women like to venture to places that no men would do, such as jogging at night in desolate places. Sure you are entitled to your liberty but be smart instead of taking unnecessary risks.
the weirdest thing to me is these spanish guys driving who honk at women
What kind responds to that??
