If you are more comfortable with driving, just drive. North Williamsburg is right off the BQE, and is a very save neighborhood. Your car will not be broken into or stolen, and you should be able to find street parking without too much of a hassle. At midday traffic shouldn't be too bad.
If you do decide to take the train, you would have to take the A, C or E train south from Penn to 14th St, and then transfer to the L towards Brooklyn. I would not try to take the LIRR to ENY and then transfer to the L if you are unfamiliar with NYC and the subway system, you run the risk of getting yourself lost in a pretty bad neighborhood.
That area of Williamsburg is fine to leave your car during the day. I spend a lot of time in that area and the only thing you really have to worry about is...well nothing its safe lol.
How do I do this? I'm a LITTLE more familiar w/Penn but, like I said, I've never taken the subway so I really wouldn't know what to do heh.
What train goes from Penn to that area?
Downtown A, C, or E to 14th Street, then take the L across. The A is on a separate platform from the C & E.

Nah, Williamsburg is fine, though parking might be kind of difficult to find.
Also, I know you're just going for the interview, but another way to get to Williamsburg (for a regular commute) might be to take the LIRR to Long Island City, and then take the G train or B32/B62 bus into Williamsburg.

I don't think that the G is running under the newtown creek at the moment. Might be closed for sandy related repair. Check the MTA website.
OP might find the G train hard to find from the Hunters Point Station. Anyway the point is moot, the OP is going during off peak hours, there are no trains to Long Island City off peak. Out of all the options presented, the Penn Station route is probably the easiest, though perhaps not the fastest.
Yeah, from Penn the op will have many more people to ask for help. Good luck finding anyone helpful at the eny lirr station, which is barely a station at all. I took it 2 weeks ago and the only people I saw were cops and stop and frisk victims (with one in cuffs).
