"Language in Clinton's 1996 welfare overhaul required able-bodied adults who aren't raising children to work or attend job training or similar programs to qualify for food stamps after three months. But those work requirements across most of the nation have been waived for several years because of the high unemployment rate."

Do you guys realize how many innocent, defenseless kids there are in this city who already have barely anything to eat at home? Who gives a ****,right , as long as you get back at the welfare cheats? Warped, despicable thinking, really.

Thank you. There's certainly some people who abuse the system and I have seen it, I know some people who do it and its truly disgusting. Unfortunately, the ones who don't know what it is to struggle don't take a second to think that there's some very decent people who indeed use it as a leg up. Some may say that welfare being cut is going to make those who don't work get up and work. I feel its the opposite, its going to make those that don't work go out and commit more crimes. Again though, as long as they're safe, they don't give a damn. They rather the poor get killed off.

It should be noted that NYWriterDude, who does not deny that he once benefited from Food Stamps, is also undeniably ignorant of how Washington works when he thinks a Republican congress up for reelection next year is not going to apply the brakes before the cliff they are heading for. They are in serious trouble nationally as evidenced by Obama's convincing win over Romney. Unless the Democrats run Al Gore again, the Republicans know they are doomed nationally for 2016, 2020 and maybe even 2024. Saner heads will prevail because the people made it clear in 2012 that they don't want to hear this Romney type crap about 47% of us being deadbeats and the Pubs want to hold on to Congress next year.

The Democrats winning the White House does not necessarily translate into them winning control of the House. Even if they do win control, it doesn't mean that they will maintain it.

I remember thinking in 2008 we'd have huge cuts to social welfare programs. I was told at the time that was impossible. Obama, after all, was the first Black President. It just couldn't happen. And in the following years, we'd GOT big cuts to the welfare programs.

40 billion may not get cut from the Food Stamps program. But the Republicans won't pass a budget unless they still get billions of cuts. If you know people who work in the system, they've been getting cuts here and there for the past few years. Its actually death by 1000 cuts for these programs. It will proceed and anyone who thinks it won't is just in denial.

Food Stamps?

Follow the Money:

MONEY is funneled from the empty federal coffers to farm conglomerates, immense corporate middlemen, and supermarket profits.
Make no mistake about it, none of the money goes to the poor.

By feeding the poor they keep them as modern slaves which keeps them in power and the snowball of corruption continues......

You mean like all the corporate welfare "foreign aid" money that is "given" to places like Israel and Egypt, where the money never leaves the US but goes directly from the Federal Reserve to arms and weapons manufacturers right here at home, who then ship their missiles, rifles and tanks at ridiculously inflated prices?
