Hello all,

I recently got hired for a job in Stamford and transferring there in the next few weeks. Based on my spouse's job, and our preference, we would like to live in Manhattan. This means I'll be commuting back and forth to Stamford daily on the New Haven line.

I'm looking for any suggestions/tips for an area to live in, that would avoid too much additional travel time. My thought is upper-east side, taking the Metro to Harlem 125th and get on the train there. Harlem is not our preferred area (I understand that living closest to the train station would be the most convenient )

Thanks in advance for your help,
Kasper

If you can afford it (as it's a pricey part of town): Live near 86th Street/Lexington Avenue.

One stop to 125th, two to Grand Central to get Metro North access.

You can also rent in Murray Hill (E 30s) or Turtle Bay (E 40s) which are both within walking distance of Grand Central. Same caveat as above though: both neighborhoods are expensive.

You'll want an express to Stramford otherwise it'll take ages. Make sure the express stops at 125th....

Most important question is what's your budget.

I think walking distance from Grand Central Station is the OP's best bet.

This is best determined if we know your budget. As most have said living close to a line to 125th is your best bet, or to grand central.

Contact me I can show you some places once I know your budget.

Personally I like the UES or, Midtown East. I have a certain love for Midtown East ^^

Full Disclosure: I am a Manhattan Real Estate Agent.

Have you considered Belmont, the Little Italy in the Bronx. You could get the train to Stamford from the Fordham Station, ticket price is much lower, and commute is about the same as 125th St because the train is local from Fordham. Think outside the box.

I agree that living close to Grand Central makes the most sense...Tudor City perhaps?
