For those renting in New York City, how much is your household's rent? This is a response to the Bloomberg claim that the median rent in the City is $3095.
The cited figure was for Manhattan, not all of NYC.
There lots of NYCHA, section 8, RS, RC, ML, 80/20, and many other programs. $3095 is too high for Manhattan alone. Btw, most of market rate studios are less than $3000 a month.
It was already explained on another thread by someone who said he's a representative of the firm that did the study. The figure is the median for new rentals on the open (unsubsidized) market in Manhattan and, further, does not include any lease renewals. Only new rentals.
This matches up with the methodology that's listed on the firm's website.
Have you always payed 1100 for that studio. A lady at my church lives uptown and pays 1100 for her 5 bedroom 2 bath pre- war apartment and has been living there about the same amount of time as you.
Your building is not rent subsidize. Luckily, as my income keeps going up rent is able to stay down I got my apartment my first year out of college.
Yup, it's rent stabilzed. And no, I was paying half as much, back in 1990. RS increases are not always a bargain.
$1300 875sf 2BR bushwick bk for the the mrs, myself and our cat. We were paying $1200 when first moved in 2010.
I always hear people say they rather own instead of throwing monthly rent, yet sometimes as former clients of mine have said paying mortgage, taxes, maintenance is worst then renting unless you have completely paid off everything and dont rent it out and never plan on moving, theres no point.

That's because people don't buy it a house to make it a home anymore....of course they'll never reap the benefits if they're looking to flip it in 5-7 years.

What if the person itemizes his/hers taxes? At least with owning they can write off mortgage interest and taxes. Also even if you sell your property at what you paid. That's a future nest egg. IMO.
