Ironically, this thread was started not too long ago: What did NY, LA and other cities do to reduce crime so sharply?

That probably was due in part to policing and in part to criminals venturing out to other cities/towns not mentioned in the article. Our decline under Rudy was due to straight up Police Flood (complete with new guns, cars and training), and enforced Quality of Life laws. I guess that would also force a lot of determined 'enterprising' NYC'rs to flee to new places to set up (see VA, ATL).

And I'm no 'Rudy fan', but you can't deny that he changed the city for the better.
A big part of the crime wave nationally was the crack cocaine epidemic. So things did improve nationally for all major cities, as the early 90s ended.

Oh, the federal government in the 90s mind you gave all the major urban areas more money for policing. Of course, Rudy fans neglect to mention that. So the extra policing was in part a federal push.

And yes, I can deny he changed the city for the better. I just did.

We can say that while he was mayor crime went down and that the city changed for the better but we can't say or prove that he had anything to do with it.

I know you're only arguing because you like to write. I'm going to give you more of an opportunity to do what you love to do. Let me know why the city was not 'better' post Giu than pre. I really want to know your opinion. But first.. let me get your perspective. Tell me where you were in 1990-1993 because I was in Do or Die Bed Stuy.. back when Brooklyn was "Brooknam".

So the message is clear -- don't worry about De Blasio and Crime, and the fact that he never ran a halal food stand. Doesn't matter if De Blasio is in power. City will just follow national trend.

I also loved article's comment about our community policing. Surely it was other civilians that put an end to the crime.

All this article does is make De Blasio look better and more compentant in crime fighting which he is not.
