Have said it before and shall do so again, Mr. de Blasio is quite conscious of what he needs to do in order to keep NYC from backsliding into the 1980's or whatever.
Just as with Obama certain persons aren't going to be thrilled with each the man's decisions or policies but de Blasio is quite aware of the brush used to paint him prior to the election and knows fully well NYC has a rich history of one term mayors.

Bratton was chosen likely because the pool of those capable of not only running a major urban police force along with it being a terrorist target is probably quite small. Bratton also knows how to play nice with federal government and its' various agencies which will be crucial on so many levels on everything from funding to dealing with civil rights probes.

Whats wrong with laughing at the cops?

The comment about hanging out in front of the buulding at 3am is against the law.... but that was life in the 70's, 80's and mid 90's..

The big news though..is Ray Kelly is GONE..off to cash in on his "fame" as did Giuliani. He will become another Giuliani talking head on anything and everything NYC unfortunately...so he is gone but will keep coming back from time to time offering his "expert" opinion on this and that. And lastly, we should all be thankful he had no offer to become a federal appointee and spread his Gestapo tactics to the rest of the country....crisis averted!
How is that big news? - everyone knew months back that Kelly would not work with De Blasio and De Blasio would not work with Kelly. Thats old hat, not big news.

Exactly, looks are deceiving. A lot of criticism for some of her actions but she wasn't fired and now she is retired at a young age and living comfortably for the rest of her life. Can't say she is dumb.

Ray Kelly according to published reports is not a well man. Also the man has said repeatedly that after this tour of duty in public service he was done. IIRC it took some gentle "arm twisting" to get the guy to remain long as he has, but with the aftermath of 9/11/01 and so forth....

Mr. Kelly has done very well for himself in the public sector and could have left to become another Rudy G. along time ago making millions from consulting or whatever. In short a nice 9-5/M-F no holidays and so forth job that has nice financial rewards.

De Blasio went with a safe choice so to me that hints he will mostly play it safe and down the middle as mayor.

Yes this is true they actually disagreed on a lot of stuff, and FWIW he seems less politically motivated or influenced than Kelly.

Isn't that for Cuomo and state legislature to decide and from what I'm hearing it's only medical marijuana that is under consideration.
