So De Blasio picks a Rudy Giuliani staff member to be his chief of police.

De Blasio Picks Bill Bratton as Next NYPD Commissioner | NBC New York

De Blasio also is NOT ended top and frisk.

"De Blasio said the city needs to "heal some of the wounds, reopen the communication." He said he wanted Bratton to "avoid focusing resources where they don't belong, which is on innocent, hardworking New Yorkers, particularly on our young men of color."

"The idea here is to have real reform, to only use stop and frisk when it's constitutionally warranted and constitutionally applied, and to show communities that we are respecting law abiding citizens," de Blasio said."

So he is saying he's ending the targetting of young men of color and he is ending the quota system.

But he is not ending stop and frisk. The judge said stop and frisk is constitutionally ALLOWED when a crime has occurred, is in the process of occurring or is about to occur.

If some thugs are on the street hanging around a building at 3:00am, that's loitering and they can be stopped and frisked constitutionally. Jump over a turnstile, that's a crime and you can be stopped and frisked. So don't think stop and frisk is going anywhere.

It's a stretch to consider Bratton a "Giuliani staff member" considering that they pretty much hated each other by the time Giuliani fired him, basically for personal reasons that had nothing to do with Bratton's talent at police work.

The de Blasio era begins with conscious return of Bill Bratton. See ya Ray Kelly. Don't let door hit you on your way to Chase bank.

the new mayor could still just be a wolf in sheep's
clothing instead of a wolf in wolf's clothing tho; not
that it is any difference.

Well, half of one, at least.

I'm glad to see Bratton coming back. However, when he worked under Giuliani, Rudy let him do what needed to be done. I don't see that happening under Bla.
