Yea you heard proof that common sense can avoid getting you in trouble. Shocking right?
The cherry picked example is from two years ago. And guess what, in a city of almost 9 million stuff might happen to you. You just gotta do your best to avoid the worst outcome.
I'm surprised not to see more posts like that actually.
your assumption about an uneventful life with no crime is wrong.
I was robbed at gun point once, (in a gun lenient state btw) and even if I had a weapon on me that day I couldn't have used it without getting shot in the face first.
Sometimes you just have to be john Wayne another day and don't make a bad situation worse
I am just saying...I personally have never felt unsafe wearing jewlery and I wear a diamond tennis bracelet every day. I am more worried about electronics. Those are easily snatched and I had my phone stolen.
I have a nice diamond that I lie to wear for "occasions." Sometimes I wear it OUT and sometimes IN like a wedding band when on the subway.
<I never take a cab...that's for morons.>
Uhm I'd definitely need a weapon for Newark and Jersey City. I can't take all the wackos and yahoos with me they have sweet subsidized housing.
I agree. Ive never needed a weapon when i lived in the NY area... Even before gentrification when i lived in Morningside Heights i was fine. Just be street smart ..
If I was out and about in the middle the night and wanted to go home, I would just take a cab. Subways are okay earlier in the day, but perhaps at three in the morning, they might not be so safe.
My uncle has been a construction worker in the city for a number of years and carries a 4 inch knife. My thought is that attacking a thug with a tiny knife is as dangerous to yourself as to your opponent. I've read that many times when investigating knife attacks, police look for the perpetrator's DNA in blood on the scene.
So I'm thinking something like maybe a bicycle chain or pepper spray. My concern with pepper spray is that it is not very intimidating and I would prefer not to escalate a confrontation. I just want something to make Petey Pablo think twice about ganking my iPhone 5S.
Since NYC has long prohibited concealed carry except for the very rich and important, I would expect there to be numerous "success stories" of citizens using unconventional weapons to defend their life and property on the streets and in the subway.
Your uncle pulls a knife and thug pulls a gun.
