"A brand new Whole Foods, the first ever in Brooklyn, opened this morning in Gowanus, and inspired One Direction-like stampedes from eager borough-dwellers."

Okay probably not exactly a mob scene.. but what do you think? will you be going? is it a good idea?
Well, if there's a huge crowd outside, clearly Whole Foods was an excellent idea. Brooklyn is now a much different place these days. The next Whole Foods to Open up in Brooklyn will be in Williamsburg.
It's cool that Whole Foods finally opened up in Boerum area blocks down from Barclays. Farm on roof is a good idea. Sale of bottled water and water used to rinse produce is suspect. Wonder if Whole Foods prices compete with food prices at nearby Trader Joe's?

I would imagine they are similar as at union square there is a trader joes and whole foods that 2 blocks apart.
When I posted a couple of years ago that people that I know lugged food home on the subway from whole foods, I was accused of exaggeration and was told, no one in the Bronx or Brooklyn was doing that. Especially my home owner friends in Brownsville and East NY that consistently use the Tribeca Whole Foods. Because after all no one owns a home there, and no one from those places would possibly be interested in Whole Foods. While it may not be wise to place one in ENY or Brownsville, it is nice for them to have one in their Boro.
Lets see what happens when the Harlem whole foods branch opens!
I suspect it will do very well because of rising incomes in Harlem and a dearth of places to buy good food. I guess the next frontier in Manhattan would be Washington Heights or Inwood, both of which are badly in need of a good supermarket. When I'm on the 1 heading uptown I always see people lugging bags of groceries from Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Fairways.
Whole Foods is a nice store but it's just so stupid expensive that I can't justify even walking in the front door
