I was wondering about this the other day. In a city where dropping 1K on dinner is not unheard of, how much do most of us really spend? I cook all of my meals at home except for takeout maybe three times a week (mostly when at work and not prepared). I have maybe two nice meals out per month on my own unless a date pays. My total bill comes to maybe $300-350. Just wondered how much everyone else throws down on the regular.

I travel alot for work, but if I spend an entire month in the City I'll generally eat out 2-3 times a week, generally on the weekend. Might get takeout or delivery a day or two. Light meals at home otherwise, and I generally have a super-light breakfast of nothing more than yogurt and an apple.
All told, maybe $400 on the low end, $550 on the high end? I'm sure I could be more effective with that part of the budget, it just tends to take a backseat to work and other priorities in terms of convenience.
I had no idea. I ask and was told it varies greatly some months it is as little as $200 and other over $1700. It varies with how much time I am here, if I have guest or entertain. How often I eat out. If it is just me and I don;t eat out and dont entertain it is about $700
I don't know, but I'm sure nowhere near that much. Probably under $200. But I imagine one crucial factor is whether you shop at places like Whole Foods or seek out the cheapie markets.
I shop at Whole Foods but only certain items. I'm not paying $27.99 for a pound of Alaskan wild salmon just because it's 'organic' and marinated in herbs and oil. Or $6.99 for a pint of strawberries. I like the 365 brand and their dry goods. But any of the prepped stuff and most of the organic is a major rip-off IMO. I often wind up at Fairway, which isn't much better. I wonder where to go where you get actual quality that is priced better? I don't really care for the ethnic markets.
I guess it depends a lot in if it is only you or a big family.
