Yes true.....but in the bigger picture...we all breathe the same polluted air, drink the same water..etc....and those that live in the city are not here for the pristine conditions, nature, or for purity..so it comes with the territory.

I am aware of the stastics...I think we all are! And the current administration is working to change that...as are many grass root organizations.....it certianly is not perfect....but it is far better than Staten Island...they have the highest breast cancer rates (and a huge prevalence of other cancers) in the country (thanks to that lovely garbage dump), or Country Club in the Bronx..which has had an explosion of childhood leukemia due to the illegal dumping in and around the area, just to name a few....and both areas are considered" better" than East Harlem.....and the list goes on and on..

Hi, new to this forum... I have friends in New York that said a lot of artists (performers etc.) are opting for safe affordable places in harlem. I want to move to New York and I would love to live in Harlem if there is indeed safe areas. Any answers?

"Safe" is an arbitrary and useless term. In this city, yoiu can be just about ANYWHERE and get robbed for a cell phone..happens in prime mid-town manhattan in the middle of the day...and over the past few weeks, there have been a few bank robberies in midtown as well.

What do you mean by safe? The city overall is very safe...compared to how it was 15 years ago...and compared to the poopulation in the city. It may be less safe than your 2 horse town though...

LOL
Good for the nightlife. Wanna come home from work and party and STILL get up in the morning...... then its cool

Depends on the neighborhood.
I was in an apt where they were doing some illegal stuff. I had to run and quickly!

Default East Harlem isnt a Bad neighborhood

East Harlem isnt bad at all the crime rate has been low for years you white people just over react. The upper manhattan has its projects but it doesnt make it any worse than the lower manhattan.

^^^^i dont agree east harlem is a lot different from most of lower manhattan and im saying most becuase the projects in the lower east side are no better. in east harlem too many idiots starting problems for no reason and all kinds of stuff. your not going to instantly die living in east harlem like some people act like and you wouldnt in the 80s or 70s either but spend enough time in that area or live there and your going to have problems eventually it is the ghetto after all.
