Maybe these developers are retarded or something. Millionaires and proven business people investing millions on a "dump." You don't see that happening in Camden and North Philly. East Harlem and Harlem in general won't always be a dump. Gentrification is well on its way people.

The mosque is on the corner of 116th and Lenox Ave/Malcolm X Blvd. Lenox is the West side of Harlem. This is not East/Spanish Harlem. 5th Ave is still the dividing line between East and West all the way uptown.
Quote:
Just clearing things up because the real estate people try to say anything west to Lenox is Morningside Heights. Also Wikipedia is incorrectly now saying that 106th St is Morningside Heights this is not this is Manhattan Valley from 110th - 96th St. W. 110th to W.100 St from Central Park West to Amsterdam is a predominately Dominican neighborhood. |

Those are great pics! The areas changes are dramatic and accelerating....you are seeing the first stages of a transition...over the next 5 years the changes will likely revitalize the entire swath as demand continues to be high!
I am glad to see the continued improvement in the area...and those with the VISION have ALREADY done well..and will continue to do well and improve the community. It will certianly not be a paradise..but it is a heck of alot better than it used to be...and getting better everyday. |

whats your point? my point was that despite all the "gentrification" going on in harlem it still has quality of life and crime issues. far rock isnt undergoing gentrification its still the hood. junkies on the beach aren't an uncommon sight. yet i find it a little disturbing that million dollar condos are going up next to methadone clinics in harlem.
