I don't understand why so many poor blacks continue to call NYC their home. Stop and Frisk is clearly still in effect, for those residing in predominately low income black areas. Why stay and be subjected to such brutality?

White NYPD Cops Rejoice after Beating up Black teens after botched Stop and Frisk ! - YouTube

I realize that some may not have the skills and/or education necessary to find gainful employment, but the working poor would probably due far better in a more rural environment that has a lower cost of living and better quality of life.

Why stay in a city that is clearly intended for the white "upper class?"

You are correct about racism existing everywhere and the notion that only whites (and those closest to white) deserve a good quality of life, but in my opinion, poor black people should relocate to more rural and country areas, where stop and frisk (and the police presence) is not so prevalent.

A lot have left and continue to leave. Many of the poorest that stay are in the cycle of poverty that is not so easy to break.

The more poor that leave the better! I don't care what race they are. I agree with this poster and even repped them.

Rural poverty is even worse and there is institutionalized racism in rural areas as well. So...uhh yeah I wouldn't exactly call it a solution either. A large chunk of those that have left NYC are actually lower middle to middle class.

What about poor white people? Is it ok for them to stay?

I think we know why poor anyone lives here...we have the best social services of anywhere in the country. If you are homeless the city is obligated to house you, at a rent you can afford, for life. That pretty much sums it up.

Now here is a better question: Why do the wealthy continue to live in NYC surrounded by so many poor people? The wealthy can live anywhere yet they are fighting over themselves to live next door to housing projects, homeless shelters, drug treatment programs, clinics, detention centers.....they are literally surrounded by the poor everywhere they go. Makes no sense. Riddle me that Batman.

This is such an ignorant and nonsensical viewpoint/statement.

Not only is it nonsensical, but your reasoning is illogical.

The fact remains, people of any ethnicity (whether they be black, white, hispanic, asian, etc) have the right to live wherever they want. Believe it or not, blacks get followed/subjected to racism, irrespective of their income status. Perform a google search on Forrest Whitaker in NYC in 2013,, and read how he was followed, harassed, and targeted at a local store on the UWS after a clerk thought he "looked suspicious" and accused him of stealling. He is a wealthy man, yet he was still profiled.

We should not have to move anywhere to avoid persecution and being illegally targeted b/c someone/some group believes we "did something wrong." The fact is these practices, irrespective of who they are embraced by, unfairly target us. This will occur anywhere, whether they live in NYC, or rural town USA.

The persecuted don't need to change. The accusers and unfair targeting practices do.

I agree, you should be able to live anywhere you choose.

I also think you should do so on your merit, without government assistance.

That would separate the wheat from the chaff, regardless of color of skin.
