It does.

They only let people join the DoS like once every seven years, and if you don't have an in, you're not getting in. My buddy's been trying for years. His dad's from Sicily. Doesn't have good enough connections.

Actually your buddy's just a dope probably like yourself. So a citywide test where your score determines when you get hired now equals having an in? Keep em coming Einstein.

I can't tell if your serious or not?

It's probably the least biased hiring system I've ever seen. Having an in does absolutely nothing to get you the job.

Thousands and thousands of people take the test every time they open the books. If you don't think who you know influences who gets in, you're on some good drugs.

So your suggesting that they make up your score for the test? It perhaps they just skip around the numbers to cherry pick who they want on? And the people who get skipped get paid off to keep their mouth shut?
This is laughable.
This job is very difficult to get, however it's not due to shady hiring tactics. It's due to people being in the right position to take the test when it does come out (last one was 2007). Basically having to score 100 to be considered. And having all your ducks In a row when it comes hiring time.
I took the test, scored 100 and still waited 6 years. And even then 2/3 people don't make through the hiring process due to failed cdl test, medical DQ failed drug test etc. I'm a proud member of Dsny and no one got me here other than myself doing what I had to do to get the job.
The whole mob runs sanitation thing is in reference to private carting companies not DSNY, get a clue.

Doherty is all right. He used to live in my old Neighborhood of Great kills before he moved off the island. His son however is a another story.
