It's not. What culture is there in rooftops, microbrews and bedbugs....

Default No.

Brooklyn is like a serpent with six heads.

Downtown is the heart. Williamsburg is one of the heads.

I prefer the Caribbean culture: good food, music and street vendors. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and I was forced out because I could not afford to buy a property in my desired neighborhood.

There are definitely young white professionals that are locals. Many are from Queens and Long Island, to give an example, but I'm sure some are also from other Brooklyn neighborhoods.

And it does not matter what individual culture one prefers. At the end of the day, more people come to Williamsburg for non-necessity reasons than any other Brooklyn neighborhood.

You can also add Italians to that list.

Yeah, I have Italian relatives in Williamsburg. Still a few decent places to eat there, but I don't dare go to the devil's den, as I loathe hipsters.

I used to visit Williamsburg everyday for work. I do not recall too many Italians. I honestly never liked the place. The only reason people care is because white young professionals have taken over. They moved there because it was affordable and close to Manhattan. As a result, businesses followed. I think Williamsburg may have been where it began for this group to settle in Brooklyn. This neighborhood will continue to see a large number of these folks because businesses are there to accommodate their needs. Let's not forget the short commute to Manhattan.

Culture does matter. Why do you think Williamsburg is so popular? My point is that they do not represent the cultural heart of Brooklyn. They live where they feel comfortable. Brooklyn is a diverse place. I am pretty sure Black Americans, West Indians, Italians, Jews, East Europeans, and Hispanics would all have a different take on the cultural heart of Brooklyn. What makes this group so special?

The Italian population these days are limited to the eastern section of the Neighborhood as you head towards Queens (The annual).

And it is not specifically just about this yuppie group. Williamsburg has a greater variety of cultures living in a single neighborhood than anywhere else in Brooklyn. Brooklyn may be diverse as a whole, but its individual neighborhoods are not. At least that I can think of. It is not like the yuppies are the majority of Williamsburg yet, unless I am really that far behind in following how much the neighborhood has changed. But I still see many Hispanics, blacks and Jews around, not so much Italians but some are still around.
