Says someone who doesn't even live here, there's social interaction EVERY SINGLE DAY between thousands of people that have huge gaps in income & lifestyles. You are in many ways forced to interact with people of other "classes". In LA that is avoided because it's so spread out and people spend most of their time alone in a car
The more I think about it, the stupider this above comments gets. I left NYC in Oct, and from there on I must have forgotten everything about NYC, like I've never even lived there. Completely absurd!

What's absurd how you can lose your memory so fast. I see interactions all the time on the subway and street between completely different types of people. Ranging from commenting on the weather to something they just saw, to asking about where they got a certain item or piece of clothing. That stuff rarely happens in LA. I'm not talking going out to hang out together, I'm talking about general interactions. You are forced to have them in NYC because of how tightly packed everyone is and it happens here more than any other big city in the US.
Heck, you don't even have to say anything to have an occurrence qualify as a social interaction, you could just be standing there listening to two people talking. Just from that you had exposure to somebody different's life that you would never have had otherwise
I don't take the subway much, I take the bus...I don't see a lot of interaction on there, mainly when I do, it's people fighting! LOL..
Saw a woman recline her seat on to another guy's legs the other day. The guy politely asked her if she could move her seat up a bit because he was tall and it was uncomfortable for her to basically be reclined all the way...she started cursing him out, calling him an "arrogant ___, etc.". I couldn't believe it. the poor guy was dumbfounded.

What I don't understand is why are the transplants so eager to kick the poor out of this city? If majority of the poor leaves who will work these expensive overpriced delis and eateries? Imagine paying $9 for that Big Mac if they can't hire enough cheap labor?
You end up having to pay $12-15/hr just to get someone to deliver take out to you.

If I were the guy, after that exchange, my knees would be nudging/bumping that deeply reclined seat incessantly.

it's also a good way to get stabbed, imagine if that guy had mental issues
