I would think that it would be more convenient for the people who are in those projects to walk to Ave U and take the bus to the train at E 16 st. Or walk.
Or take the 2/5 train to the 44. But Why is Sheepshead Bay on the Q not good to take at night? Nobody has really told me why yet.

Never had a night time problem taking the Q at Sheepshead Bay station, crime or otherwise. The 44 to the 2/5 tain was a good alternate for me to downtown Brooklyn.

I've spent a lot of time at the Ave U Q/B station recently, and not to sound racist, but I haven't seen a single African-American face, and the Nostrand projects have been predominantly African-American for over fifty years. It's not empirical data, but from my vantage point, they're not using that station.
In terms of just walking, without taking a bus, the closest train station for them is probably Neck Road. With the bus, it's easier to get to the Sheepshead Bay station than Neck Road or Avenue U.
But it's all moot because the problem with crime at the Sheepshead Bay Q/B has little to do with black people from the projects. It's mostly white people. Homeless. Drug addicts. Alcoholics. Gang-related. Sometimes all of the above. And this consists mostly of ex-Soviet immigrants and their children.

When I was young I felt as if the projects on nostrand were mostly Puerto Rican or split. Heck even my Haitian cousins who live in those projects look Puerto Rican lol.

About a mile away. People who live there walk or take the B36 bus.
I wouldn't walk. Must be one annoying walk. When I was a toddler and my mom didn't have a car we took the b9 from my place to the 44 or the Q to sheepshead for the 36.

Nahh you don't sound racist at all. I think most of them take the 44 to the Junction - the Q train is an awfully long walk from Nostrand Avenue.
