The secret of Whole Foods is that it is worlds largest confessional booth. Yes, Whole Foods specializes in selling indulgences. With New York becoming a bastion of upwardly mobile, college grad, corporate consumers, with majority single female population - this is right where Whole Foods demographers want them.

After generations of mindless consumption combined with unrepented sins the population collectively was carrying massive amounts of guilt with them. People want to feel good about themselves - have a clean spiritual bill of health. In the religion of Americanism individuals carry around massive amounts of guilt. There was not venue for relieving guilt -such as the confessional in the Catholic Faith- which has lead to many in American consumerism to carrying massive amounts of guilt. The genius of Whole Foods is that they stumbled upon a way to charge people to relieve sins while increasing consumption! The reason Whole Foods shoppers pay 9.99 a lb for free range chicken versus $2.99 a lb elsewhere is to feel like they doing right in the world and atoning for past sins.

Whole Foods and the collective organic food industry has carved out this highly successful niche to relieve guilt for a price. People have guilt for the biggest or smallest of sins but it is written on their hearts that God will forgive those sins. God is not involved in the ruling class religion but merchants are! People are willing to pay a 100% premium on their products if it makes them feel guilt free.

Spent your childhood eating step-mothers meatloaf loaded with salt and factory cattle? Try some organic grass-fed ground beef and feel good about your choices and atone for your past food sins.

Have a real skeleton in your closet - maybe a murdered baby (abortion)? Maybe a viscous promiscuous period where you had sex with way too many people and it sort of ruined you? Complete all of your shopping at Whole Foods and your collective attempt to ensure all the chickens are free range and all the coffee is fair trade and all farm animals are grass fed your attempts may just absolve you of the sin etched deep into your heart - the sin quietly weighing down your conscience.

The typical Whole Foods Shopper meets the following criteria
  • College Grad
  • Female
  • Employed
  • At least one abortion

That's definitely a major part of the appeal.

I have to keep my wife out of that place or she'll start spending hard earned simoleans on some free range local organic rooftop crap and walking around with that whole foods bag and the associated virtuous glow.

contraire mon frère. Europeans, especially the French and Germans, view Harlem as a neighborhood of great culture and history. They are flocking to the area, especially west Harlem to take tours, dine and actually stay.

Thank god mid western, fanny pack wearing, whites are still scared off by stories of Harlem during the crack epidemic and stay in that hell hole known as Times Square.

Midwestern whites come to Harlem as well. Columbia University is there. Mt. Sinai, a major research hospital is there. You have Central Park and Riverside park. Its amazing how people come up with ridiculous stereotypes.

And so do straight men.

So because some people are too POOR to afford quality food they have to hide behind a ridiculous charade of phony masculinity.

Please.

Maybe you guys can get a low paying lumber mill job in some Southern haven. Enjoy being worked to death with little pay and no benefits! But don't worry, you get to brag about how manly you are while you make the mills owners obscenely wealthy.

Here is a link to the whole foods parody in Grand theft auto V. When I heard the commercial of this whole foods parody I started to die with laughter. Most of the themes associated with organics and it's users are so true in this parody. Look at the link for yourself. The parody is known as The Grain of Truth.

I'd pay a couple bucks to watch the security tapes and giggle at the shoplifting. "Madame, did you pay for that triple cream brie stuffed in your bodice?"
