Google Fiber delivers Internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. That's 100 times faster than most current high-speed Internet networks. Google is exploring plans to lay down the special cables in nine metro areas: Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City, San Antonio and San Jose. That includes 34 cities in those regions.

So apparently, NYC is NO longer on the short list of newer techs.

Google Fiber may come to a city near you

It is much riskier to lay down new infrastructure on the larger cities first. They'll start in smaller markets, collect the lessons learned, enhance their implementation techniques and apply to other larger markets going forward.

It looks like that the northeast will have to stay put with the same information "loway" while the south moves on to something newer and faster.

As someone in the business I can tell you the cost of laying fiber in NYC is exponentially more expensive than the other cities you list. Don't you think they would love to serve NYC. For most people and most applications the extra speed you cite is wasted...Technology will catch up for sure but right now the speeds available are more than adequate for the applications served

maybe faster internet means better access to your beloved porn entertainment here in nyc, it might mean something else including better infrastructure of communications to promote productivity in the new south.

I predict that a new civil tech war is coming to the stage...

in other words, NYC is too expensive to be cutting edge anymore...

even if that is the case, if not nyc, at least they could test a neighboring metro like philly, albany, boston...but none, google chooses to leave the entire northeast out of the plan.

Your prediction has no basis in reality

Lol. You are *really* reaching.

It isn't going to any cities in the northeast so it's likely a technological issue at the moment. Either way, I don't think slightly faster wifi is going to ruin NYC.
