The state has no business getting involved with two consenting adults who want to kick each others a$$es. It completely flies in the face of NY's progressive government which completely supports the right of consenting adults to do what they want in their bedrooms. DeBlasio or Cuomo would never stop two gay men from making a decision between themselves.
This is total nonsense. A casino in Manhattan would mint money like no other casino in the world. It wouldn't be a tourist destination in and of itself (a la the Vegas casinos), but it would pull in both locals who would gamble elsewhere (using the transit links that really no place else has), and the hordes of business travelers who come to NYC.
The latter is the most important, because this would be capturing spending for NY that is currently not being captured.
While I understand the political expediency of it, the deal they made that keeps casinos out of the NYC metro area for seven years is massive fiscal stupidity. If you want a casino that pulls in money from people coming from outside NYS, it needs to be in Manhattan.

There just aren't enough gamblers around to support them all -- including any new ones in NY state. New York is a leading tourist destination. Resort World Casino in Queens has siphoned considerable business from the casinos in CT and NJ, and again this was before the legalization of table gambling. NYC is the main tourist attraction, not CT or NJ.
South Bronx near Yankee stadium. Build it along with a top notch hotel with a indoor concert venue. Jobs and taxes. I understand not politically correct but NYS already does Lotto.

Agreed. A casino near Midtown Manhattan's Hotels and Near Broadway and top shopping destinations would mint money like no other. But as I said, Genting, the first casino to operate in NYC, lobbied the state to keep competitors out of the city for 7 years so they could get a return on their investment! Coney Island has a famous name, the amusement parks, and the beach. So it too could use a casino.
Oh, and the reason why the state gave in to Genting's request is that they wanted Genting to pay for construction of a new convention center in Queens near the casino. I'm not sure if that deal is still in the works. Queens convention center at Aqueduct in limbo after talks stall* - NY Daily News Genting had agreed in principle to build a big new convention center in Queens if it got legalized gambling in NYC and a certain period of exclusivity.

It would also encourage people to spend on other forms of entertainment like shows and theater. To produce world class shows in its periphery, it has to be in Manhattan. Cannot imagine Celine Dion or Elton John agreeing to exclusive shows elsewhere.
I'd let Genting upgrade Aquaduct to a full casino, but I would NOT allow that to stop a Manhattan casino. They would be two different markets. The people in midtown on business would not be schlepping out to eastern Queens for a few hours of entertainment gambling.
And, yes, I thought of Coney Island also. It's sort of NYC's Atlantic City, if you think about the history of the two places. But without exclusivity, I don't think gaming would work there.

I don't want any casinos in this city. In my eyes they are as desirable as trans fat. You want to prohibit/ticket people from enjoying their personal vices then entice them with gambling and debt ?
This is disgusting. I've been to 3rd world cities where the Govt. preys on the already poor citizenry by letting them have access to waste any money they have. They feed the addictions and depravity of the poor. It's called bamboozling your own people.
Rich people can play the stock market for entertainment.
