Certain cities like Singapore use caning and they have much lower crime rates than New York. Would it be better for NY to allow caning?

I know that's impossible under the current climate, but if you think about it, it might be better. If you caned criminals as opposed to relying on long jail sentences, you could save taxpayers money.

Maybe we should cane the NYPD when they abuse someone.

Don't think it would work at a time when the mayor desperately needs to create jobs to put a damper on the Dominatrix industry. Guys like Marv Albert would just commit some petty crime to get their butts smacked for free.

That's stupid. There are significant cultural, political and economic differences between NYC and Singapore. How about addressing the issues that actually cause crime.

I can only imagine public canings held in front of City Hall with the crowd cheering while eating nachos and hot dogs. I'm sure some folk would pay for that too.

I think caning is a backward form of punishment and there wouldn't be a big public support for it.

Singapore. Isn't that the place where chewing gum is against the law? And they have capitol punishment for penny ante drug dealing? No thanks.
