I agree with him. Gentrification is disgusting. All these yuppie transplants from the midwest are coming to New York and moving here with their parents money and destroying this city. New York is losing its culture.

I agree, but most gentrifiers are still affluent whites.
Luxury condos, new boutiques, etc are not being built for the longstanding residents that occupy the neighborhood.
One of the things I don't like about gentrification is that cultural landmarks, icons, historical places usually go down the drain when it happens. But I understand that neighborhoods change, whether we like it or not.
Being priced out of your neighborhood is no fun. If these same people were being priced out I'd guarantee they wouldn't like it either.
Spike Lee is just talking and exactly that... TALKING. Is he buying any property or investing in the area? No, he's just talking.
Spike Lees movies have sucked for a while and hes just doing guest appearances to tell Hollywood and the Film scene that he exists.
Everyone knows gentrification mean you kill the already existing culture. White people and asians move in, blacks + Hispanics move out. Yeah I said it its what it is. Of course culture is going to die if the ppl leave their home. The issue is that they don't own so.....as usual America will keep hiding behind BS laws to commit unsavory acts and call it just.
Am I now? I know for a fact that there are many Blacks with money returning to Harlem. Using the dictionary definition of gentrification, nowhere does it mention race. Unless, of course, you think that only White people are middle classed or above.
Then again, many minorities who are middle classed and above tend to not be the urban pioneer types and move to suburbs or places other than "deteriorating urban neighborhoods".

White people and asians move in, blacks + Hispanics move out.
I'd say just there are just as many Blacks and Hispanics (probably more) taking part of this gentrification process as Asians. And not by just moving out.
