Hey cirerm,Congrats on making it,do you know the total amount of new hires from the test back in 2003? under or over 2,000?
Also want to know if having your CDL before getting appointed makes a difference rather than having to go through the DSNY CDL training.

na it dont make a difference your list number stays the same but your better off going through the dsny training because its cheaper through them and theyll have you driving like a champ in 5 days.plus the dmv takes it a little easy on you when they know you trained through dsny.

Thanks Wreckerman, that is good to know. The driver training is done at Floyd Bennet Field right? I read somewhere that the passing rate of people who go through the DSNY CDL training is 85%. With a driving school it is not only more expensive but they might not have the same trucks as DSNY. They probably charge extra if for some reason you fail the skills test.
So all that you need is a CDL permit with "N" endoresement,no air brake or intrastate restrictions, and the medical examiners certificate before going through the DSNY CDL training. But you have to wait to be called in first right? What I mean is you can't just go there and say I want to enroll in your CDL training program. I will be in the 2nd round of the physical test. Still have plenty of time to get my CDL on my own.

You know its very funny you say that. About 2 weeks ago when i met with my Investigator she asked about my FDNY and DSNY status and asked me if hired for the NYPD what do i plan on doing. I told her of course i want to become a cop always have. I then told her being that my list number is 31XX i dont plan on getting called for hire for at least 2yrs from the DSNY. Her answer was "keep that door open". She went on to tell me in her own opinion she thinks the DSNY is a better job and you make more money. She told me she has a friend whos been on the DSNY for 6 years and already is making 6 figures.

Just found this thread, hey to all.
I took test #6063 in June also. I scored a 105 and am list number 135. I took the physical test in Nov, I forgot the date, probly the first day they gave it. The test was easy I think everyone passes. I just got my permit for CDL class B with N endorsement and no restrictions. Im 21 years old and can tell you that most ppl my age are killing each other for this job. I am worried about my status because I have a disorderly conduct on my record which will be off my record February 28th, 2008. I also a few minor car accidents. Hopefully these factors wont disqualify me. I also know 4 guys one of which is my uncle who are all retiring within the next year so thats a good thing. What does everybody think about my status, all honestly?

thanks man, I want this job so bad and I feel like the odds are against me even with the score, list #135, 3 years of college, etc. I really dont know how the record/accidents will affect my hiring but Ill def keep everyone posted cuz Im sure others have the same questions. The disorderly conduct is not even considered a misdemeanor my lawyer says; its considered a violation. Who knows I mite be makin a mountain out of a molehill here or maybe the concerns are legitimate......

Dude, this is from the other DSNY thread, not sure if you read it though,in my opinion you have nothing to worry about. I just hope from here on out you drive safer, your CDL is your meal ticket. You can easily get your CDL suspended or worse if you have a lot of accidents. So you dropped out of college to take the DSNY test, smart move!
