I THINK YOUR RITE CUZ I HAD DISORDERLY CONDUCT B4 I STARTED AND IT WAS A VIOLATION.AND DONT FORGET TELL THEM EVERYTHING EVEN IF YOU KILLED SOMEONE THEY HAVE TO HIRE YOU UNLESS YOU HIDE IT FROM THEM.

If you're working all kinds of different shifts, doesn't that mean you'll make more money because now you have the night differential thrown in? Who cares what shifts you're working as long as you're making the night differential & the overtime + the truck time ($63 extra per day).

How much overtime do the new guys get realistically?

NO YOU WONT GET A STEADY SHIFT UNLESS A TISSUE OPENS AND THE TISSUE GETS DOWN TO YOU.10 PERCENT IS NITE DIFF. 12 TO 8,4 TO 12, 11 TO 7, 7PM TO 3 AM.YOU WILL RARELY MAKE THE TRUCK WHEN YOU START. AND I COULD HAVE MADE ABOUT 13 THOUSAND THIS YEAR BETWEEN OVERTIME AND TRUCK MONEY. BUT IM THE WRECKERMAN SO I DONT GET THE TRUCK DIFF.

On the job description,it says Overtime is mandatory....but is there a cap?? Obviously it is cheaper to give a lot of OT to a new hire rather than a senior guy. The dept works with a budget right?
THERE IS NO CAP. THERES A SNOW BUDGET AND THEY LOVE TO SPEND IT.I WOULD SAY GUYS IN MY GARAGE WITH 5 YEARS AND UP MAKE ABOUT 80 TO 85. I WOULD SAY MAYBE 10 GUYS IN MY GARAGE MADE 100 PLUS BUT THERE ALL ON 18 PLUS YEARS AND THATS INCLUDING RETRO MONEY.GUYS IN MANHATTAN GARAGES MAKE ABOUT 5 TO 10 THOUSAND MORE THAN GUYS IN OTHER GARAGES.

Does anyone know what they can use from the medical to rule you out as a candidate, other than failing a drug test?

So you have to wait 4 yrs before taking the supervisors test wreckerman? Do you know how many took the test? Well that seems more accurate on the earnings of DSNY workers. Must be hell to work in certain areas of Manhattan.

MPrus, just be upfront about your driving record, they will pull your DMV record obviously,I believe it goes by acase by case basis even though this is on the website.

"Serious moving violations, driver license suspension, accident record or other indication of poor driving ability may disqualify you."

you also need all dispositions of all your court appearances if not that can also disqualify you.

no you dont have to wait 4 years to take the test.you can take it as long as your on the job b4 the filing period starts.but if you make the list you need 2 years experience as a san man b4 they can promote you. the test is every 4 years so the next one should be in 2011. im not a hundred percent but i heard about 3,000 took the test.
