i think there looking at around 500 to 800 over 4 years depending how many supervisors get promoted to super or retire. thats an average of 125 to 200 a year. i dont know if those numbers are accurate but from what i hear thats how many they usually promote.

I have extra official copies of the disposition I had to get them for other jobs since then too. I got arrested for possession but pled guilty to disorderly conduct so Ill have to tell them the whole scenario. I never had a moving violation or my license suspended/revoked, just accidents. The guys I know on the job, my uncle Jimmy O Donahue, and his friends, Frank Fitzpatrick, Charlie Schneider, the other two guys I only know their last names, Felix and Falco they all work in Queens garages not sure the specifics. Also a friend of mine at my second job just moved up as some kind of supervisor, Steve Bakers his name.

if you fail you cdl roadtest do you get another try at some other time or do you lose your spot?
at the physical they tell you you to get the permit.i thought after you pass the final screenings they send you get the cdl.
whats the wreckerman do?
why do the manhattan guys make more, overtime?
what is it that disqualifies so many guys?
where are the boroughs usually sent?ie brooklyn-works manhattan, brooklyn garage etc

The Notice of Examination says something along the lines of you must have a class a or b cdl or cdl permit w/ N endorsement and no K or air brake restrictions at the time of appointment....
what they mean by the time of appointment I dont know, it seems like they mean by the time of the pre employment screening which is the next step

GT,You have to really screw up to fail your CDL road test, the passing rate from the DSNY CDL training is 85%,to fail you have to either cause an accident, fail to obey road signs, there is room for error though. A good idea would be to drive or walk around the road test area before taking the test, preparation is the main thing, the driving part comes with experience.
To play safe I would get my CDL before going through the entire hiring process, but like one guy said the DSNY trains you with their trucks, now if you do fail the road test the 1st time,it might be awhile before you can reschedule it,not sure about losing your spot though.
Out of the 3,759 who took the physical in group 1 how many do you think will get hired? I am guessing no more than 1,000.

MPrus, when you took the CDL written test at the DMV how many questions were on it? was it multiple choice or true and false? is it 14 out of 20 questions answered right the minimum passing grade?

Thanks. So how long does it take before someone new actually makes the truck? Is it months or years?
Also, realistically, what's the range a new guy can earn his first year otj?

How many years do they go back and look at on your DMV records? I know if you get an abstract from the DMV, it's only 3 years. Does DCAS go beyond those 3 years? Do they look at summonses you received over ten years ago?
Also, how in depth is the background investigation?

They just gave a supervisor test (#7502) on 10/27/2007. Before that they gave a supervisor test (#6510) on 10/14/2006. So it seems that they're giving supervisor test more frequently than every four years.

To get the CDL license before going through the medical exam and background checks from DCAS wouldn't seem to make sense because there's still that chance they might DQ someone for whatever reason and then your stuck having paid all that money to get the cdl license before you landed the job. My understanding is just to have your cdl permit ready and your proof of residence.
