Hey Wreckerman, how does the process work? Does DCAS do the medical exam and background check first and then send you for the cdl training once you're cleared?

The written test for general knowledge was 50 questions, you're allowed no more than 10 wrong. The air brakes was 25 questions, you're allowed no more than 5 wrong. The tanker was 20 questions, youre allowed no more than 4 wrong, however, the tanker was the easiest one I thought. The General took me two tries, the air brakes and tanker I got right away. All the tests were multiple choice. On the general knowledge, you mite get a picture of like an intersection and they ask you what lane to start in and what lane to turn into during a specific turn so there is one diagram and thats it.

Also a friend of mine at my second job just moved up as some kind of supervisor, Steve Bakers his name.

if you fail the cdl i think you can keep taking the test you just have to schedule another open road test.
when a sanitation truck or broom or supervisor car breaks down i tow it.you need a cdl class A to be a wreckerman.
manhattan has all the parades. when i was in manhattan i was able to work a sunday every month. now in brooklyn ill work 2 sundays a year without snow.

To play safe I would get my CDL before going through the entire hiring process, but like one guy said the DSNY trains you with their trucks, now if you do fail the road test the 1st time,it might be awhile before you can reschedule it,not sure about losing your spot though.
Out of the 3,759 who took the physical in group 1 how many do you think will get hired? I am guessing no more than 1,000.
|
the sanitation instructors will drive you through the exact road test b4 you take it. but your not supposed so dont tell anyone.
maybe less than 1,000 because of the k restriction now.

Also, how in depth is the background investigation?
|
i dont know about dmv or dcas but dsny investigates all the new workers for there first 3 years. they probably look at everything you did.driving record, arrests, education. they fired someone in my garage for having a fake GED it took them around a year to figure it out.

|
no its every 4 years. the reason why they did that was because so many people failed last year they had to make a new test because they didnt reach there goal in promotions.so instead of curving that test they just made a new one. ALOT more people passed this test so the next one wont be for another 4 years.

Thanks MP,will get there early just in case I have to take one of the tests over again, yeah the general knowledge part covers way more than air brakes and tank. How much time do they allow for the test?
