Hey guys who took the CDL permit test recently...

I got the study guide in the mail and it has something in there about a medical form.Do I have to bring that to a doctor or something or is it if Im disabled or something? I took the test 2 years ago but dont remember anything about a medical form. Also, there is like 4 pages along with the booklet about hazmat.I basically just need to know exactly what the DMV needed from you guys besides the basic m44 form or whatever.

Thanks.

the medical form is so that your permit/license will not have an a3 restriction on it...u can't have any restrictions for dsny....get it filled out by a doctor.

I don't know if you have the same study guide as me,you can get one for free at any dmv office, you have to wait in line and when your next just ask for it and they give it to you over the counter. I did order online "How to prepare for the CDL" by Barrons last summer,it is a bigger book than the one from the dmv,has practice tests with the answer keys in the back and a glossary.

When you go the dmv office to take the test, bring the MV-44 form along with your drivers license, medical certificate(card),$10.00 for the tests, they have pencils there if you need one,you can't wear a hat inside the test room,no cell phones allowed either. They will take your photo before going inside the test room. They didn't ask me for any additonal id(ss card, etc).

Tests are multiple choice(A.B.C),the hardest is the general knowledge(50 questions,no more than 10 wrong to pass. No time limit but you have to get there(garden city dmv) before 12:00pm.M.T.W.F(10:00am-2:00pm).

Once you are done with the tests bring them up front, put them in a basket and go sit in the back, wait awhile until they call your name, they will tell you either you passed or failed,if you fail you have to come back another day,if you passed they will process the paperwork, they didn't give me an eye test at the dmv, maybe because my doctor gave it to me for the dot exam. You pay another $10.00 and they give you an interim permit,in about 2 weeks you get your cdl photo permit in the mail.

My advice is to try to sit towards the back in the test room,it is noisy up front, the dmv clerks yapping away at each other, very distracting, also if you fail the 1st time, they don't give you the answer sheet back. Good luck!
