easy now...EASY EVERYBODY! dont get caught up in a tizzy! Remember....they were still giving the physicals even when there was "talk" of cutbacks and freezes. This may be somewhat trivial to all of us "not in the know". Unions are concerned... once you are actually hired! Maybe there are some "Union personnel" reading the thread that can contribute insight on topics such as "anticipated retirement #s" and other helpful stuff. It would be much appreciated.

While we're on the subject of DSNY Unions...do you guys have the same Teamsters union local for all the boroughs? ....Also, are all the various DSNY employees represented by only the Teamsters?, like routemen, supervisors, sancops etc...

you're being misinformed. I was just up at FBF for FEL refresher & they're saying CDL classes start in March. Once you go through the physical, orientation & medical, they will set you up for CDL & you'll fill out one of these:

Sanitation Workers, Foremen, and Sanitation Enforcement Agents all have different unions. Sanitation Police Officers are Sanitation Workers who work in the Enforcement Division of the Sanitation Department.

so if they start cdl classes in march....then we should be getting the orientation and medical in feb? is that what you are saying? most people are telling me you take the cdl classes before you take the medical....

what happens is u get a letter saying when to go down for orientation where they set u up for cdl training.u must have your permit in order before they set u up for training.they will also give u the paperwork to go get your medicals done.YOU will go to about 4 different places around the city.THey will also verify your residency status so make sure u keep bills from the test date and the list establishment date which isnt known yet.YOU will also get a booklet to fill out asking about arrests, schools and employment history.DONT LIE IN THE BOOKLET. About a week later u can call hr to ask about your medical results.Once your list number is reached you will recieve a phone call telling u to go down for final processing.DO not quit your current job until this point!!!.At final processing they will take your id picture and fingerprints and tell you your official dsny start date to go down to fbf. When i started i went to crs for a week, but i think its all at fbf now. Also i didnt get qualified in fel training or broom training.ALL new hires will have this training.

Well if it is true about March for the start date of cdl's .. Then i hope that we will hear something soon about the Orientation .... with my rank number in the low 340's it should not be to long of a wait ...
