They say since we came on after the fiscal calendar date of 7-1-08 (we came on 7-7-08) that we won't be able to get any vacation for the remainder of the year. They say we get a full 18 days or something like that starting in January even though we haven't accrued it yet.

To be honest, for the most the instructors stop watching us heavily after a while. They are mainly busy talking to each other. Not to take anything away from the instructors. They still get the job done. My partner and I got yelled out today for speeding in the collection truck through the obstacle course LOL

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A new audit by the city comptroller's office has found wasteful spending by the Department of Sanitation and claims that the agency lacks supervision in the agency's program for cleaning up vacant lots.
New York City Comptroller William Thompson said city workers claimed to have removed tons of garbage from vacant lots that were, in fact, already clean.
Auditors had visited a lot next to 1192 Ogden Avenue in the Bronx where the Sanitation Department issued a work order to clean up weeds and litter. Auditors photographed the area and saw that the lot was clean. The agency had claimed to have removed more than 16 tons of trash from the lot.
"It appears as if the Department of Sanitation has no real checks and balances when it comes to oversight of supervisors in the field," Thompson said. "It's shameful that the Department of Sanitation has spent taxpayer dollars to remove waste that wasn't even there."
Auditors examined 76 cases from July 2006 to March 2008 which the Sanitation Department said were in need of cleaning. The auditors found that 31 of the 76 lots already were clean.
The audit found that the Department of Sanitation reported that it cleaned the lots and claimed to have paid dumping fees for the garbage to be removed from 13 of them. Workers also reported removing between two and 16 tons of trash from four of those lots and then paying dumping fees.
In addition, the audit determined that the Department of Sanitation had meager controls over the identification and cleaning of vacant properties in the Vacant Lot Clean-Up Program and that the Lot Cleaning Division used City resources inefficiently and may have misused equipment and manpower.
The Department of Sanitation said they reviewed the audit's findings and will strengthen reporting procedures.
