Times when I told some I worked with, there where things they wanted to do, but didn't b/c o it. Just advice passed to me that I now pass to you.

good lookin out, nabz. that makes a lot of sense and I gonna take your advise if I get on.

I am now working a teamster job (UPS) and just did my 19th year. I want to stay and do 20 years, and than go into DSNY. if my number comes up, what can I say to the HR rep, so I can defer my hiring for another year or so.my goal is to get 2 20 year pensions and have medical

I am bumping your post up in case somebody missed it last time. It looks like they will call you(DSNY)sometime next year, maybe 2 or 3 classes away, which would mean sometime in the summer of 09. You must be in great shape as driving a UPS truck for many years takes a toll on your body as well.

They can put you on hold for not having at least your CDL permit, medical issue. I heard that one can be reinstated but not sure how it works. I thought you either had to accept or decline the job once you got the letter in the mail. That isn't the case.

how do they determine what garage you will be going to? did they ask you for a preference, and is that the garage you are assigned to permanently?
and, oh yeah, good luck salsan.

They try to get you around your neighborhood for training. Your actual garage will probably be somewhere else. Wherever they need you. Thanks for the luck.....

More than likely you guys in the July class will fill vacancies in garages where people have transferred out. And then the Aug. class will most likely be placed the same way. Guys on the job already put in transfers & of course if there is space where they want to go & they have the seniority, they get the transfer. Now once everyone has gotten to someplace they wanted to go, now you guys most likely will fill the vacancies left behind. Now being that there is a Aug. class & they may put some of you guys/ gals far from home, you can put in a transfer to someplace closer.

Did OJT garage duty today with 3 Bills at BK4 Left my house at 7:26 got there at 7:30. Not bad the GU Mike was really helpful. We changed tires, it is definitely a 1 man job, very easy, we took off tires 7,8,9,&10 so the mechanic can fix the brakes.
I drove the Broom which was pretty cool. Also learned how to dump the broom and clean it and grease it.
We got to hang out with the BK North Superintendent for a while and that's never a bad thing.
I got to see where the recycling in Bk north all goes. If anybody has to go to BK1 or 4 the dump is actually behind there garage. I also went to Queens and saw where the Repair shops are. I knew they were there because they are like 5 minutes from me but I never knew it was the only one in the city.
I hope everybody elses OJT was good and for anybody night driving good luck and be safe.
