First of all, I guess i could call the training center ask how the training is when someone is appointed but I rather ask here first. How is it like? please describe. Do they have you driving around Brooklyn? Do they let you drive around in FBF before they let you go into the streets. And anything else I should have in mind. The only thing that concerns me is that i am still an new driver. I got my drivers license in April and my CDL in June. Unfortunately I dont own an truck to practice so I might be rusty. I drive my father's van everyday but that isn't an truck. So I am kinda worried about that, I need to drive in a truck again to get the feel of it. Kinda miss it. Driving in the streets don't worry me so much as getting on the highway... almost took out an car trying to merge on the highway when i was going for CDL training. lol.

Also what Garages are known to be good in the city ( esp in manhattan and bronx )

Thanks
Relax man. Most of us never drove a big-a$$ truck before CDL training. You get two half days in the obstacle course on FBF and two half days out in the street in the collection truck. Then you get 4 nights of relays with someone OTJ with you. Then if you make collection during your first 30 days in district, you still have someone with you. Your partner will have control of the steering and brakes from the other side of the truck if they feel you need help.

Being that you are a new driver, you probably have less bad habits than the rest of us. Take your turns slow. Pay attention to how the senior guys handle the tight turns and double parked cars.

Forgot to add...MAKE SURE YOUR FRIGGIN TRUCK IS FUELED. It's on you if your truck dies and the cause of it was no fuel. NOT EVERYONE FUELS THE TRUCK EVERYDAY SO BE AWARE OF THE FUEL GAGE.

Damn thats bad if crackheads are giving up mulla.

First time i did hand brooms everyone thought it was punishment, i told them nah i am not being punished they sent me here to sweep up in front of all these stores and make a note of all the stores and buisnesses that had a dirty sidewalk so they can give a ticket. Two minutes later the whole block was sweeping and the streets were pristine...wink wink there goes my hand broom secrets.
