directly from the DCAS site, people....

Q: I passed the physical test. What’s next?
A: The Department of Sanitation expects to begin using the eligible list for Exam No. 6063 to make appointments in early 2008. The number of appointments will depend on the department’s hiring needs. The list will be established for use at that time.

From what my bro tells me, for every 1,000 guys they call, they only hire somewhere around half.Who has another job, or a better one coming, who fails the drug test, whos just plain not interested anymore, residency problems, who died, whos too young, convictions, the list goes on.

There is something called span of control. For so many workers there has to be a supervisor, and for so many supervisors there has to be a superintendent . The staff at FBF has to be bulked up with temporary trainers to fufill the training guidelines when cdl training and new classes arrive. So to say that people on the job do not know is not even close to being right.
Okay. So you have been otj for 10 years....Which means you know a considerable amount of people. Then tell me this.......When are they going to start the hiring?????If you can answer that, then I will say that people otj know when it will happen.....If you are wrong, or don't know.....Then I will prove my point....

My nephew is OTJ for 7 1/2 years,in the Jersey Street Garage Staten Island and he has no clue as to when the hiring on this list will begin. Most guys who are OTJ who post here seem to have alot of conflicting info on hiring.Makes you wonder what they really know.To those guys:give us good information not speculation.I would like to know how many guys retired last year and how many they project for this year. That would be a good thing to know,

For the thousandth time expect to be called within the next couple of months for pre employment processing that takes time. Plan for the first class to be in the summer end of May beginning of June. That is not speculation that is planned. Now what you guys have to understand this is the city of NY things change every day. Right now they are planning on having 2 classes maybe three. There is a word you will all learn with the city BUDGET that is what is keeping the classes from starting. The mayor ordered more dept cuts the other day 86 million worth on top off the earlier cuts. The dept cannot hire new workers until it has presented the city with its plan. If they hire for the f u c k of it ,the same thing will happen that happened a few years ago LAYOFFS.

Spoke to a union rep today said that their going to start class or calling sometime in May. They don't really know themselves because of the budget cuts. Turkey Tuesday is right with everything he's is saying, I heard the samething about putting in 2 classes and then they're going to freeze the list.

Very few people retire at their 20 years. The tier that they come on with does not let them retire(not enough income) without getting a second job.So instead of going to work somewhere else they will stay on. They are also holding on for the infamous variable supplement( we are the only uniformed force that does not have this) . What that entails is every year in December upon your retirement you are sent a check I believe the first few years it is 8,000 maxing out at 12,000 in about five years. Yes every December till you die, so people are afraid if they retire they will not get it. This is because we were offered it some whiles back, and our old union pres wanted to grandfather in all retired workers..... The city said no!!!!!! Not a sniff of it since. Until last negotiation when they city gave us 2 million to start a fund to aid retirements. It is like 250 dollars a year or something. I would say 1 or 2 guys a garage a year tops on average retire. Which is about 150 guys. They need to average good for three years to get a good number, but with winters being non existant and no ot they are not getting it.
