Hook up with some groups and network. Even without a GED, you could probably get a job easier by networking with the right people in NYC, mostly Manhattan. Go to meet-up.com and see how many hobby/career groups you take an interest in and attend. Don't just land here and expect to make it.

Get your cosmetology license while you get your life in order then move to NYC.
