I have never heard of calling a cop after a speeding ticket has been issued. How does that conversation go?
Driver: "Yes, hello? Is this Officer (insert name here)? This is (insert your name). How are you? Remember me? You pulled me over on the Belt? I was doing 65 in a 50? Well, I was wondering if maybe we can, you know...ummm...maybe sort of "squash" this whole thing?"
Going that fast on the BP with so many potholes is just foolish. You're lucky you didn't blow a tire or damage your rims, which would've cost you more than the ticket.
I lost a second tire probably from driving 50+ miles on there everyday. Sigh. I also lost a hubcap but that was when I was changing lanes because at night I can barely see in the dark and I didn't catch it.
If you drive it enough, you know the parts that are bad. Going East is not as bad as going West. And right before the drawbridge until the gas station going West is AWFUL.

Honestly, they should stop more people on the belt/ssp. Roads are windy & some people think its a race track.
You're right, you could be a target. But most people are going at least 60. There are only a few parts that are "windy" and when you get to the newly paved part around Erskine, everyone is doing 60-80 MPH. When you get closer to the airport, everyone is back to doing 60-80 MPH. I don't mind speeding---the people that bother me are the ones going 80+ MPH and cutting in front of you, going back and forth changing lanes to get two feet ahead, nearly side swiping you. Most of the accidents I see on the Belt are actually little nothings and plenty happen when I'm sitting in traffic everyday unfortunately.

When I used to own a GTI and then STI the police in Brooklyn pulls me over on the BQE or Belt for doing 65-70 on a 40mph zone. Seriously!? There's a 40mph zone on the BQE!?
I know now that these cops specifically targets certain types of cars. On top of that the stupid cop gave me an additional ticket for loud muffler. The muffler I have is a factory stock that I took pictures and have proof in court, it was tossed out eventually.
I drive the same speeds on my Minivan and never get pulled over.

Actually, cops who set up radar traps & wait want it to be worth their while. They're not there to pull over guys going +1 over the limit, they are looking for outliers. If it's a 50 zone and everyone is driving 65, nobody is getting pulled over. But as soon as someone zips by at 70/75, they are going to get lit up. Conversly f everyone is going 55/60, then the guy at 65+ is going to get pulled over.
As a general rule, always stay within +10 of the speed limit when passing potential traps (blind turns, over a hill, past overpass, etc...) and you'll never have any problems

Good points. My husband says the same. If you're going with the flow of traffic, even if everyone is doing 65 in a 55, you won't get pulled over. The ones going faster or the ones that zip through lanes usually get pulled over.

You can say that again, But last time I drove on the Belt many of the bad potholes have been repaired.
I know this will sound stupid, but I'm just curious what the best approach here is.
I was going 65 in a 50 on the Belt Parkway. I have no prior history, perfectly clean record. Not much more to the story. Obviously I don't want the fine, the points, etc.
Is it worth doing anything? Would attempting to call the officer lead to anything?
No just pay it and write it off to experience.... It really is no big deal if it is only 1
it may or may not, depends on your insurance company's policies
Really? I never knew that. Have any idea which insurance companies dont break chops if you receive a speeding ticket?
