Hello,

Has anyone ever seen any examples of:

1. Institutions, businesses, or buildings that were very out of place in the surrounding neighborhood.

2. Blocks within a neighborhood that seemed like they belonged in a different neighborhood.

3. neighborhoods within a neighborhood that seemed totally different from the surrounding areas.

Thanks

Chinatown in Manhattan since the LES, Tribeca, Downtown, and SOHO have become gentrified\

The projects in Chelsea

The housing projects in Flushing on Roosevelt, and College Point. Just brings in a juxtaposed demographic.

Riverdale in the Bronx. On one side is the Hudson river, but look the other way, and is just the much lower income areas the Bronx is known for.

I remember walking around 60th street Upper East Side, and I remember I passed one block where I saw multiple bums roaming around. I looked and saw sleeping bags and everything like that. It felt as if I got transported to the Tenderloin for one block, wow I never knew places like this existed on the Upper East Side

Hamilton Beach section of Howard Beach looks like a trip to the boonies, you'll see marsh plants, flooded backyards, and wooden boardwalks.

The land-based battleship I work at; it's not only out of place in Chelsea, it would be out of place anywhere.

Van Cortlandt Village is just across Mosholu Pkwy from Norwood(Gates Pl, Knox Pl) which is much grittier than the former

the Naples Terrace step street on Broadway seems foreboding (Graffiti, lurkers hanging out) and out of place with the hustle and bustle of Kingsbridge
