David Byrne should know since he hangs out at parties given by the 1%.

I have always liked the Talking Heads but David Byrne's net worth is somewhere north of 40 million dollars and he's been wealthy for the better part of the last 30 years. Does he feel crushed under his own weight?

What?? The only reason the city (manhattan south of Harlem) has the architecture it has is because of the 1% who demand interesting and unique buildings.

If a place is safe/robot like and expensive only, there is no room for all types of creativity just a sad amount and dull like.

I'm not sure I'd specifically blame it on the 1%, but I suppose that, yes, the outcome of various financial issues has probably led people to focus more on money, trying to stay afloat. Also, I was just leafing through an article (New York Times?) about how all the cheap neighborhoods for artists are disappearing.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if the greater problem is that the internet, in all its manifestations, is draining all the energy away from creative activity.

Yes. Its all the fault of the wealthy. Creating jobs while crushing creativity.

Maybe the adage is true. Once the creative become comfortable they lose their edge.

Constant troll? I love NYC - one of my top 3 favorite American cities, actually. I'm genuinely curious what people think about the rising cost of living in NYC and it's effect on creative life in NYC. It's an oft-discussed topic as of late.
