I think that people visiting NYC should stay in NYC. I know that Manhattan is expensive but there are now good options in Queens and Brooklyn. I am wondering what other NYers think about this.

It really depends on where in each. I would look at places in Long Island City which is part of Queens. There are a number of reasonable places near the Queensboro Plaza subway stop which is only one stop from Manhattan (about 5 minutes). The key to staying in the city is being near any of the multitude of subway stops.

I agree that it depends, because if one's focus is Lower Manhttan, Jersey City is much more convenient than Queens with the PATH. If you have a car, Fort Lee can be a good option because of the convenience to Upper Manhattan, and no fees for parking at many of the larger hotels. For someone landing at LGA or JFK, Queens is a sensible option, offering an easy means to get to and from the airport. I do not think there is one option if one does not want to stay in Manhattan, nor is Manhattan always the best choice, depending upon the type of trip.
