I will add though that there are striking demographic divides in the suburbs of even New York City.

For example, 30 miles from the city is this pocket of non/diversity called Greenwich. This is not something to be proud of. Just saying before we say NYC is light years better on political correctness when it comes to demographic mix, it clearly is not. There's demographic divides everywhere including the outskirts of the city as well as street by street within Manhattan's most densely populated squares.

White people are only like 44% of the population of NYC, stay where you are.

OP quite possibly has conjured up the most wacky, and disturbing. post I have ever read anywhere.

Positively wacky and disturbing.

So, where in Texas do you live? I want to make sure I never move there.

That would be the strangest reason to move here that I've ever heard. Surely you can find some nearby city with decent public transit.

New York has everything within it somewhere though so as for a Texas vibe in the city, there's a really popular eating place called "Dallas Barbecue" upper west side and it's very Texas in style and designed to create everything Texas in a Manhattan spot. The only reminder you aren't in Texas is the food price. It's a popular choice for Texas transplants who have dealings with Exxon Mobile and also an array of tourists.

What bothers me about the OP is the minimal use the OP has for becoming a New Yorker....besides dropping the car

Absent an appreciation for the numerous and I mean numerous other city offerings...all which by the way come with a big price tag..... OP wouldn't possibly see a cost/benefit value in moving there...who would?

Gain: can get around by train and bus (OP weight of importance ...high)
Ok let's proceed

Diverse ethnic cuisines all over the place (OP weight of importance ...0)
Cost add- on. ( very high)

24/7 things to do ...OP weight of importance (0)
Cost add-on. (Very high)

Living near parks and museums and art and exotic shopping boutiques
Cost add- on. (Enormous). OP value placed : zero

Broadway (same as above
Mulberry street (same as above)
Public transport to Boston or DC or Coney Island boardwalk F train
Hanging out in Greenwich village or Bleeker
Going to Yankee stadium
Unique lectures at Barnard and Columbia
Ralleys and parade involvements on 6th ave
Touring Brooklyn's hip neighborhoods
Hiking in Roosevelt island
Visiting Bronx Zoo
Experiencing Roosevelt ave Flushing Queens
Interest in Battery Park/911 memorial

Add on cost of having all this at disposal ...very very very very high
Value to OP in considering the location move having all this extra stuff...Zero

Just want public transport to get around no thanks to the rest

I am going out on a limb and guessing that you have never been to NYC and have no idea what the cost of living here is.

If some yokel from Texas wants to dream about the big city, let him.

Texas might is in a different place though and is equally powerful. A New York City resident would be lost in Texas very quickly.

You would expect places and things to be there for your convenience. Instead, you would find a lot of people do it themselves. They fix their own trucks, they buy things in bulk, they know how to fully construct customized homes,

They know how to paint, use equipment straight from the box, assemble very large equipment using very small accessories

They have better understanding of what it means when a flood or drought destroys decades of hard work and perhaps perseverance you would not want to test

I will say New Yorkers are highly intelligent but they have knowledge gaps that they don't know they don't know.

I think there is a lot this OP does not know about the Big City, but I hate to break it there is a lot this
Texan can teach you just as much about self-reliance and living outside the big apple if ever you wanted to see life without all the organization so perfectly organized for you....

I learned from rural and city people, they BOTH have blind spots.

You have to ask yourself while you are doing what ever keeps you busy that makes you a high strung New Yorker, there is not a void of nothing happening in middle of Texas. A different use of efforts is being exhausted in a different place...sometimes very dirty and bitter tedious persevering work in the fields or on the property...work that a New Yorker would not have the capacity in duration and time patience to do

So I think this OP is naive about the big city, but I need to be very careful to make it clear the knowledge aptitude of a New York City local is not above it all.
