Hey Everyone,

Going to graduate from school this spring and looking for a place to live in New York. A friend and I are looking at apartments in Northern Bed-Stuy, somewhat near the Myrtle Street Stop on the M train. One of the places is on Dekalb and Marcus Garvey and another place is on Hart and Marcus Garvey. What are people's thoughts on this area safety wise? I've heard its maybe not the best part of Bed Stuy, but the apartment is very affordable and I'm on a very tight budget. Im a 23 year old male so walking at night is not necessarily my biggest fear.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Forget about just the northern part, Bed Stuy in general has one of the highest crime rates in all of the city.

I'm sure there are other much safer neighborhoods where your money will go further.

The only issue you may have is that Hart/MG is by Roosevelt Projects. Otherwise, Bed Stuy is changing, and changing quick!

Stay out the PJ's if you have no business or people you know. Otherwise, common sense rules apply. To get a feel, go to the neighborhood in the evening, and see if it feels right. Good luck!

Why are you looking at Bed-Stuy in particular?

Essentially just for the cost. we're also considering a place on Marcus Garvey and Pulaski. At night walking home from the subway shouldnt be too dangerous, correct?
