Other than the mothers of little kids, no one wants to deal with the poor customer service of the fast food counter or drive-up window and people would probably go more often if totally automated. I'd rather pay $60-80 and have a nice dinner at a restaurant with real customer service and freshly made real food.
I dread going for fast food but still rarely will do it if on the road and want to save time, and they almost always mess up the order.
Good for Seattle.
They are far more sane than those in Congress trying to turn the United States into a third world nation making sure the mega millionaires become billionaires, while those at the bottom test new lows.
The GOP won't even allow a VOTE on raising the pitiful minimum wage.
Poor mom and pops...it's getting harder and harder for them to find wetbacks that they can pay HALF the minimum wage to while paying none of their social security and Medicare. Poor dears.
They should relocate back to Tijuana, Odessa, Calcutta, Seoul, Beijing, Baghdad and San Juan where they can make it big time.
How sad it will be to see them all board the next tramp steamer home.
What's awesome about this post is how casual the racism is..
In Australia and perhaps elsewhere there are already "automated" fast food restaurants.
Customers place and pay for orders at booth similar to ATMs and wait for it to be brought out.
Such kiosks make sense on many levels including customer service. Just as with bank ATMs they can be programmed for a vast array of languages for instance. Paying by CC or debit card only removes much of the cash equation from the transaction which also solves many problems.
If one were going to open a MacDonald's franchise anywhere in the Times Square or other part of NYC with heavy tourist traffic, I would certainly look into such a system.
I can see the old Horn and Hardart system returning in a more modern format.
Big companies may lose profits but the general public just says boohoo. But the real tragedy is for small businesses which will struggle with such a massive increase in minimum wage. What we'll likely see is an increase in under the table dealings on the part of small businesses in an attempt to skirt the $15 minimum wage while still hiring the same number of employees and thus hopefully providing the same quality of service to local customers.
